Can’t, won’t. Which is your word of choice when selecting a reason to not do something? I use them both interchangeably and incorrectly myself. There are likely some very appropriate times to use either word. But Can’t often means you’re afraid to try. Won’t frequently implies fear, pride, or stubbornness.
When you select either word as your “get out of jail free card”, you could be missing out on opportunities to grow. Rely on God, discover you gifting, trust others, become more fulfilled, and thrive. A life without excuses becomes a life of purpose. Are you willing?
Dear Lord, reveal to me why I hesitate so often to follow through. I know sometimes there is fear in me, I just ask that you help me bring my worries and fears to you. I need all of your strength to let go of my excuses. Lord, you are my light and my salvation. You are the strength of my life. Of whom, then, shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1). I will be strong and of good courage, for I know You are with me wherever I go (Joshua 1:9). Free me from all ungodly fear, for I know fear is never of You.
I pray You would guard my heart and mind from the spirit of fear. If I experience feelings of fear, I pray You would replace them with Your perfect love. If I have gotten my mind off of You and on my circumstances, help me to reverse that process so that my mind is off my circumstance and on You.
In Jesus name I pray
God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
